Building location aware learning games

The past two weekends I’ve been refining my skills and building a location aware game that uses all sorts of media and most all the great features of a smart phone.

Back 5 years or more I built numerous SMS driven clue based games and later tried my hand at QR codes for team building games.

These days there is so much you can do especially if you have some insight into game mechanics and the topic you are teaching during the process of experiencing the game.

My latest entitled Passion Quest is based in the Melbourne CBD. It’s aimed and 13-16 year olds as they seems to love these kinds of social games. Later on I might adapt it for Adults. It takes participants on a journey or quest that teaches crucial life-skills in a fun and interactive way.

The challenge is to create short ‘snacks’ of learning information that are embeded among the game play. I’ve enjoyed that fact that I can make users complete small tasks like visiting websites, taking video or photos, engage with virtual characters as requirements to move forward though the quest.

Update soon. You can find out more and register a young person for the event by clicking the image below.
